By conducting extensive research into circulation patterns and analyzing the existing park with regards to decision points, route hierarchy, and expected footfall, I developed a comprehensive wayfinding strategy for EPCOT. In order to reinforce the new identity of EPCOT, I designed a suite of directional signs that draws inspiration from the historical architecture and new typography of EPCOT.
Brief
Since its opening in 1982, EPCOT has continuously and organically developed. This ‘collage’ and layering of different stages of development has led to a park full of conflicting ideas and principles. The role of the wayfinding and signage in this context is to act as the glue linking these different fragments together, and to give a comprehensive identity to the park, in line with the new neighborhoods and EPCOT’s broader transformation.
