Brief
The MagicBand’s used at the Walt Disney World resort are part of a distinctly Disney visual language that provide a frictionless visit. However, this aesthetic is in direct conflict with the immersive nature of the Galactic Starcruiser experience. The development of wearable that fullfills the function of the MagicBand while aligning to the visual language of the experience was mandated.

Role
In an attempt to keep guests off of their mobile devices as much as possible, I designed a wearable with the capabilities of the MagicBand and additional functionality. Through the addition of a small screen and an intuitive single-button interface, the new device is capable of granting admission to the parks and different attractions aboard, completing transactions, previewing the itinerary, and receiving notifications to maintain a punctual experience.

Prototyping
In order to achieve a uniquely Star Wars aesthetic, a series of filters and screen effects were tested to emulate the glow and appearance of the CRT displays used in the production of the original trilogy.

Wearable Band
Similarly to the MagicBand, the band of the wearable has a tear away section to accomodate guests with smaller wrists. Additionally, the wearable’s face is secured to the silicone band via press fit which allows the bands to be swapped and upgraded easily.
